This extraordinary man has lived an extraordinary life and has an extraordinary message for us. This is his witness statement and vision for the future.

After having watched David Attenborough’s new film “A Life on Our Planet” it is clear that he is one of nature's most important advocates and it is through his work over the last 60 years that has made us more aware of the natural world.

This movie reveals some incredibly powerful takeaways, and here are some of them.

  • Since the 1950s, animal populations have more than halved
  • 70% of the mass of the birds on the planet are domestic birds, mostly chickens
  • Humans account for over 1/3 of the weight of mammals on Earth
  • 60% of animals are those that are raised for us to eat
  • 15 billion trees are being cut down each year
  • 30% of fish stocks had been fished to critical levels
  • The Arctic has experienced summer sea ice reducing by 40% in 40 years

🌍 Slow population growth by raising the living standard globally
🌍 Use “Nature’s energy”/ renewable energy to power our world
🌍 “Rewild the wild” and restore health to our ecosystems
🌍 Put in place no fish zones for marine life to return and thrive
🌍 Change our diets and eat a more plant-based diet
🌍 Redesign farming, leaving more space for nature to regenerate
🌍 Stop reforestation everywhere

“We are ultimately bound by and reliant upon the finite natural world about us”

“People care for the natural world when they see the natural world”

“We must establish a life on our planet in balance with nature.”

“There is nothing left to stop us, but ourselves”

“Nature is our biggest ally and greatest inspiration”

“We must re-wild the wild”

“If we take care of Nature, Nature will take care of us”

“Millions of years’ worth of natural world is disappearing and its because of how we choose to live our lives”

“The truth is, with or without us, the natural world will rebuild”

“We can only thrive when everything around us thrives”

“If we act now, we can yet put it right”
